Anatomical Star-Shaped Calcaneal Locking Bone Plate

This highly specialized orthopedic implant is surgically utilized to treat multi-fragmented, displaced intra-articular calcaneus fractures (severe fractures of the heel bone). It is typically applied through a minimally invasive lateral approach (such as a sinus tarsi or limited lateral incision) to avoid the wound complications often tied to larger extensile lateral incisions.

• Geometry & Mechanical Function:

  • The Star/Web Head: The top radiating “arms” or prongs are designed to span across the shattered bone pieces of the calcaneus, specifically bracing the critical sub-talar articular surface and stabilizing the sustentaculum tali.

  • The Plate Shaft: The vertical stem features a primary dynamic compression slot along with multi-directional locking holes. This allows the plate to pull the posterior facet of the heel back into its natural height and alignment (restoring Böhler’s angle) before it is anchored securely to the main bone shaft.
