Orthopedic 3.5 mm Volar T-Shaped Locking Bone Plate.

This T-shaped internal fixation plate is an engineered orthopedic device used to stabilize metaphyseal and epiphyseal fractures, particularly where a bone transitions into a broader, flatter joint head. It is most commonly applied on the palm side (volar) of the wrist to manage distal radius fractures, though it is versatile enough to fix fractures of the distal clavicle (collarbone) and proximal humerus (shoulder area) (Kim et al., 2011; Niu et al., 2023; Teimouri et al., 2022).

  • Anatomy & Geometry:

    • The T-Head (Top Crossbar): Features a row of round locking screw holes positioned horizontally. This allows multiple screws to sit tightly side-by-side inside small, fragmented bone shelves right next to a joint space, providing cross-bracing structural support (Teimouri et al., 2022).

    • The Plate Shaft (Vertical Stem): Features elongated, combination (combi) slots. The figure show “figure-8” shaped holes that allow the surgeon to choose between regular compression screws (to slide and pull the bone tightly against the plate) or threaded locking screws (to establish a completely rigid, fixed-angle bridge).

    • Orientation Marking: The stamped “L” clearly visible at the neck juncture indicates that this specific plate is structurally pre-contoured for a Left-side limb procedure.

  • Material: Usually manufactured from high-tensile, lightweight medical-grade titanium alloy or stainless steel to support immediate weight-bearing and early joint mobilization while maintaining a low profile to prevent nearby soft-tissue and tendon friction (Wang, n.d.; Yao, n.d.).
